The Sound of Music

Updated: Aug 8

The Sound of Music was written by the collaboration duo of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Oscar Hammerstein II celebrates his birthday today so I thought it would be good to explore the music from "The Sound of Music".

Oscar was born July 12, 1895 in New York City and died of stomach cancer on August 23rd, 1960, shortly after the opening of "The Sound of Music".

The Sound of Music is A tuneful, heartwarming story, it is based on the real life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world's best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II. Julie Andrews plays the role of Maria, the tomboyish candidate at an Austrian abbey who becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain with seven children, and brings a new love of life and music into the home.
