No Instruments Allowed

Updated: Oct 6, 2022

In this post we are going to look at "A Capella" music. This is a style of music where there are no instruments, just voices. It often sounds like there is percussion, but the sounds are all coming from the human voice.

Ylvis explains what A Capella is in this song:

The Muppets learn about A Capella:

A Brief History of A Capella:

Rockapella singing

"Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?"

Rockapella was formed in 1986. They are best known as the house band for the PBS TV show "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. Their biggest success has been in Japan.

Pentatonix singing Hallelujah

Pentatonix was formed in 2011 and won the third season of NBC's "The Sing-Off"

Here they singing "Evolution of Music"

Here Pentatonix joins Dolly Parton for the song "Jolene"

Streetnix full length concert entitled

"We Forgot the Instruments"

Streetnix was a Canadian group based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They were founded in 1991. They used to do a lot of performances in schools.

Now a days with technology it is very easy to create your own a capella songs with one person singing all the different parts. Here are some examples:

Baby Shark

Africa by Toto

Avengers Theme

or join in with others as in this Star Wars performance

Even more acapella fun:
