Brahms and Baseball

Updated: May 3

Johannes Brahms

(May 7th, 1833 - April 3rd, 1897)

Johannes Brahms was born in the German City of Hamburg.

He learned to play cello, horn and piano at a young age. By age 10 he was performing on piano for the public.

Brahms loved books and read basically everything he could find.

One of his most famous pieces is "The Brahms Lullaby"

A Lullaby is a quiet, gently song used to help babies fall asleep.

Grab a stuffed animal and gently rock it to sleep while watching this version of the Brahms Lullaby.

(At school I don't have stuffed animals but I do have a box of dinosaurs. I usually get the kids to rock the dinosaurs to sleep - it is so cute to watch!

Here is Minnie Mouse's take on the Brahms Lullaby:

Watch the famous Cello player "Yo-Yo Ma perform this song with Kathryn Stott on piano

While travelling to Hungary Brahms heard Gypsy Bands performing. This inspired him to write a set of Hungarian Dances, He wrote 21 dances in all. The Hungarian Dance # 5 is the most famous.

I gave this page the title "Brahms and Baseball". I do not know if Brahms was a baseball fan, but I like to add some baseball moves to his Hungarian Dance #5. I do not take create for this idea, it was found at the following website: http://listeninglessonsunlimited.com/Brahms_Hungarian_Dance_5_-_Lesson_Plan.html.

I did however create the following graphic:
