Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

Updated: Nov 23, 2021

How did Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer come to be?

It was born out of a department store marketing assignment. Montgomery Ward wanted to pass out colouring books during the holiday season of 1939. Copywright Robert L. May was tasked with writing a poem to go with the colouring booklet. He drew from his own childhood experience of being bullied. This is how he created the character of Rudolph, the little reindeer who was bullied for his red nose.

Rudolph ended up being a huge hit and continues to be a favourite with kids to this day.

This is the version I have used with the kids at school. (sorry, no voices included)

Here are some animated versions of the song:

Don't worry about all the different instruments they say should be used with this video. Just follow Rudolph and tap along with what every you have (a pencil, your hands, your lap, whatever)
